Snooper's Rock
Snooper's Rock is located in the south of Tennessee, adjacent the Tennessee river.
Getting there
When you are closer to the destination, the road will start getting slimmer and the curves sharper, so I advice you to be careful and use good judgement driving here. Once you find the scree road, drive up so you be able to park in the closest parking to the lookout. Once on the parking lot, you'll have to walk 5 -8 minutes. Yes! For non athletic peeps like me, this is wonderful. We got there at 7:15 am and sadly the sunrise had already passed, but the view was magnificent. There were other people enjoying the view as well. We stayed for a while to enjoy the view and decided to come back the next day.
We still wanted to take some shots of the sunrise in this beautiful spot tho. We decided to come back earlier the next day. So, we woke up early and headed to snooper' s rock. We got there around 6am, it was still dark, cold and foggy. We set up and waited for sunrise, but luck was not on our side this morning. By the time sunrise was eminent, the fog hadn't yet dissipated and it was as dense as ever. We could mainly see the shine from the sun but nothing else. Since we were already there, we decided to wait to see if the fog dissipates so we could photograph the beautiful landscape but no such thing happened. We ended up leaving at 9:30 am, we managed to take a couple of pictures and truth to be told, the fog added mystery and character to it, but still it wasn't the shot we wanted.
We went a couple days ago and it was perfect. The temperature was in the mid 70's, there was barely any fog and there were not people around. We could have not choose a better day to go. This time we did manage to catch the sunrise in all its splendor and it was stunning.
I highly recommend Snooper's Rock. You may want to bring a blanket, a basket with some crudities, sandwiches, fruits, water and coffee, and make it a early morning date. I do advice that before you make the drive, check if its hunter season. You will not be able to have access to the trail if it is.
